SYMPTOMS

After instructing Windows NT Setup to convert your FAT partition to NTFS (the partition containing Windows NT), the SYSTEM32 directory is corrupted.

CAUSE

This problem only occurs when the filenames in the SYSTEM32 directory are in a particular order. It is caused by a cache problem in Convert's read/write cache.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT and Windows NT Advanced Server version 3.1. This problem was corrected in the latest U.S. Service Pack for Windows NT and Windows NT Advanced Server version 3.1.
