Insert Symbol En Space or Em Space Not Repeatable

Q106683

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Word for Windows, version 6.0

SYMPTOMS

After you insert an "en space" or an "em space" in your Word for Windows document, you cannot repeat the action by choosing the Repeat Symbol command on the Edit menu.

CAUSE

Most symbols inserted with the Symbol command (on the Insert menu) can be inserted again by choosing Repeat Symbol from the Edit menu. Inserting en space and em space cannot be repeated with the Repeat Symbol command. These spaces can be entered only by choosing Symbol from the Insert menu.

MORE INFORMATION

An em space is a space the length of an "m" and the en space is a space exactly half that length. To insert either of these spaces, choose Symbol from the Insert menu, select the Special Characters tab, select Em Space or En Space, choose Insert, and choose Close.
