Last reviewed: March 4, 1997
Article ID: Q106466

2.x 3.00 4.00 4.00a | 3.00 | 2.x 3.00 4.00

WINDOWS | OS/2 | MACINTOSH

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Excel for Windows, versions 2.x, 3.0, 4.0, 4.0a
  • Microsoft Excel for OS/2, version 3.0
  • Microsoft Excel for Macintosh, versions 2.x, 3.0, 4.0

SUMMARY

In Microsoft Excel, the Dialog Editor does not create text edit boxes consistently when you clear the Auto check box next to Height in the Edit Text Info dialog box.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was corrected in a later version of Microsoft Excel.

WORKAROUND

In the Dialog Editor, when you change the height of a text edit box, consecutive text edit boxes assume the same height as the first. To change the height of the text edit box, clear the Auto check box next to Height in the Edit Text Info dialog box, and then type a new height or manually resize the height of the box.

To create consecutive text edit boxes that look like the default text edit box, do any of the following:

  • Double-click the second text edit box and clear the Auto check box for Height. Then change the height to 18(the default value). -or-
  • In the fifth column of the dialog box definition table, manually change the height value of the second text edit box to 18. -or-
  • Insert a new row in the dialog box definition table between the two

text

edit boxes (item 6) and insert an item 5 (text) in the first column
such that no other data appears in columns 2 through 7.
