Windows LM Client Drops to MS-DOS with High Virtual Memory Use

Article ID: 106435

Article Last Modified on 9/30/2003

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft LAN Manager 2.2 Standard Edition

This article was previously published under Q106435

SYMPTOMS

A Windows LAN Manager client with 4MB physical RAM and a temporary swapfile of about 12MB, running Windows 3.1 and several Windows applications from a network drive, may experience lockups, screen blackouts, and drops into MS-DOS. This generally happens during heavy use of the system's virtual memory--for example, when a large number of applications are running simultaneously.

CAUSE

This appears to have been caused by stack corruption in the MS-DOS enhanced redirector.

RESOLUTION

A fix is available from Microsoft Product Support services as CSD00.061.
