The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Excel for Windows, version 5.0
  • Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh, version 5.0
  • Microsoft Excel for Windows 95, version 7.0

SUMMARY

In Microsoft Excel, if you select a scenario from the Scenarios box (located on the WorkGroup toolbar), and if that scenario is already selected, you will receive the message

Redefine 'Test' scenario based on current cell values?

where Test is the name of your scenario. A dialog box will appear asking if you want to redefine the existing scenario.

This is by design.

MORE INFORMATION

If the Scenarios box lists the current scenario as Test, when you reselect Test you will receive the error message above.

This does not occur when you use the Scenarios box to select a scenario other than the current one. For example, if you select a scenario called Sample while the current scenario is Test, you will be able to use the Sample scenario without displaying any messages or prompts.

If you have made changes to the worksheet and want to revert to the current scenario as it was last saved, choose No when you are prompted to redefine it. If you want to use the new values in your scenario, choose Yes.
