SYMPTOMS

NCR System Models 3333 and the 32xx series may experience problems reading from and writing to floppy disks under Windows NT.

When you access the floppy disk drives, the following error message may appear:

Could not perform because of an I/O error.

In addition, floppy disk writes may result in the loss of all data on the floppy disk.

When you format a floppy disk from File Manager, the following error message may appear after the status of the format reaches 100 percent:

File Manager cannot format disk.

RESOLUTION

According to NCR, a software patch is available that resolves the floppy disk problems. The patch is available from NCR's BBS. The BBS number is (803) 939-7504. The file is in the NCRHW section and is named FDD_FIX.EXE.

For additional information on other methods to obtain the patch, contact NCR technical support at (800) GO-WINNT (469-4668).

The System Models 3333 and the 32xx series computers are manufactured by NCR Corporation, a vendor independent of Microsoft; we make no warranty, implied or otherwise, regarding this products' performance or reliability.
