Arrow Size Does Not Shrink When Pointer Growth Enabled

Article ID: Q105897
Creation Date: 27-OCT-1993
Revision Date: 10-SEP-1996 The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Word for Windows, versions 2.0, 2.0a, 2.0a-CD, 2.0b, 2.0c, 6.0, 6.0a, 6.0c
  • Microsoft Windows operating system versions 3.1

SYMPTOMS

When Pointer Growth is enabled on the Microsoft Mouse Driver version 9, the expected behavior of the pointer activity in Word for Windows is that the mouse pointer and I-beam will grow with rapid movement and shrink when the mouse movement stops. However, when the right pointing arrow is in the left margin (or in the style area) the mouse pointer grows, but does not shrink. Likewise, when the I-beam is located in italic text, the italic I-beam grows, but does not shrink.

CAUSE

The right pointing arrow in the left margin and the italic I-beam are both application-specific implementations of mouse functionality. The Help topic "Enabling Pointer Growth" under "Pointer Growth Feature" for the Mouse 9 driver accurately states that "Application-specific pointers in Windows grow but do not shrink back to the smaller size."
