Shading of Field in Frame Is Taller Than Field

Article ID: Q105891
Creation Date: 27-OCT-1993
Revision Date: 10-SEP-1996 The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Word for Windows, version 6.0, 6.0a
  • Microsoft Word for the Macintosh, version 6.0

SYMPTOMS

In Word 6.0, field shading extends from the top of a frame to the bottom of the frame if a field is inside a frame that has been enlarged. The shading is tall, even though the field is not.

CAUSE

By design, the shading is extended when the field is the last item in the frame.

WORKAROUND

Insert another paragraph mark at the end of the field, to make the field shading resume its normal height.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the versions of Word listed above. This problem was corrected in Word version 7.0 for Windows 95.

MORE INFORMATION

You can set Field Shading to Never, Always, or When Selected by choosing Options from the Tools menu, and then choosing the View tab.
