1. Q. What is Genigraphics?

   A. Genigraphics is the largest worldwide network of slide service
centers that image 35-millimeter (mm) slides and overhead
transparencies. Genigraphics can also provide custom art and
      graphics.

The color palette and color schemes in version 3.0 of Microsoft
PowerPoint for the Macintosh were created by the Genigraphics
Corporation. The color palette contains the 90 colors that
Genigraphics considers the best for 35mm slides. The predefined
color schemes were created by Genigraphics' professional
      presentation graphic designers.

When you install PowerPoint, the Genigraphics Driver and the
GraphicsLink communications program are automatically installed
and configured. Using these utilities and a modem, you can send
your presentation directly to your Genigraphics Service Center.

To contact Genigraphics Corporation, call (800) 638-7348. For
more information about using the Genigraphics services, see these
two pamphlets included with PowerPoint: "Presentations on the Go"
and "Using Microsoft PowerPoint and Genigraphics Presentation
      Services."

2. Q. How do I prepare my Microsoft PowerPoint for the Macintosh
presentation to be sent to Genigraphics?

   A. To prepare your presentation to be sent to Genigraphics, after
selecting the Genigraphics driver in the Chooser, use the
      following five-step procedure:

      1. From the File menu in PowerPoint, choose Print.

      2. In the Print dialog box, set your print options as desired.

      3. In the Save As field, enter a name for your file.

      4. Choose the OK button.

If you choose to send the file by means of a modem, PowerPoint
saves the print file in the Genigraphics folder, which is in
         the System folder.

If you choose to send the file on disk, a Save As dialog box
appears in which you can specify where you want to save the
         print file.

      5. Finish completing the electronic order forms and choose
         the OK button.

This procedure creates a Genigraphics print file on your hard
disk. For instructions about sending this file to Genigraphics,
      refer to the next question.

3. Q. How do I send my presentation print file to Genigraphics?

   A. There are two ways you can send your presentation to
Genigraphics. You can either copy your presentation print file to
a disk and mail it to the Genigraphics Service Center, or you can
send it by means of a modem using the GraphicsLink communications
program. To use GraphicsLink, you must have a Hayes-compatible
      modem.

The following steps are also detailed on pages 21-27 of the "Using
Microsoft PowerPoint and Genigraphics Presentation Services"
      pamphlet included with PowerPoint.

To send the Genigraphics print file electronically, use the
      following six-step procedure:

      1. Start the GraphicsLink program.

      2. Choose the file you want to send to Genigraphics.

      3. From the File menu, choose Communications Setup. Specify
the Genigraphics Service Center to which you want to send your
         presentation.

      4. Specify the modem speed, phone type, and the port to which your
         modem is connected.

      5. Choose the OK button.

      6. Choose the Send button.

To mail the file on disk, use the following four-step procedure:

      1. Open the Genigraphics folder in your System folder.

      2. Locate the print file you created.

      3. Copy the print file to a disk.

      4. Mail the disk to the Genigraphics Service Center.

The mailing addresses for the Genigraphics Service Centers are
listed on pages 21-22 of the "Presentations on the Go" pamphlet
      included with PowerPoint.

Prices and turnaround times vary depending on the service you
request. For up-to-date information concerning pricing and
average turnaround time, call Genigraphics at (800) 638-7348.

4. Q. What are the limitations when using Genigraphics with
version 3.0 of Microsoft PowerPoint for the Macintosh?

   A. The Genigraphics Driver that ships with PowerPoint 3.0 has three
limitations that you should be aware of:

      1. Slides are the only output type you can print using the
Genigraphics Driver. If you attempt to print PowerPoint's note
pages, outline pages, or handout pages using the Genigraphics
Driver, you will receive an error message.

      2. The Genigraphics Driver that ships with PowerPoint 3.0 only
         supports landscape orientation.

      3. You should not use third-party font packages (other than
Adobe) when using the Genigraphics Driver. Consult your
Genigraphics representative before using third-party font
         packages such as Bitstream FaceLift.

To contact Genigraphics Corporation, call (800) 638-7348.

5. Q. How do I use a film recorder with version 3.0 of Microsoft
      PowerPoint for the Macintosh?

   A. Using a film recorder, you can image computer files to 35mm film.
The film is then developed into 35mm slides. PowerPoint 3.0 can
use any film recorder for which there is a compatible film
recorder driver installed on your Macintosh.

Microsoft does not manufacture or provide film recorder drivers.
They must be obtained from film recorder manufacturers or
properly licensed software developers. Technical support for
these drivers is provided by the manufacturers of the drivers
      and/or film recorders.

The following list provides an overview of the more popular film
      recorders available.

       - Forte and PCR/QCR are manufactured by Agfa Corporation. To
         contact Agfa, call (800) 937-7787.

       - FilmPrinter is manufactured by Mirus Corporation. To contact
         Mirus, call (408) 944-9770.

       - Montage FR1/FR2 is manufactured by Presentation Technologies.
To contact Presentation Technologies, call (800) 782-2543.

       - LFR and LFR Plus are manufactured by Lasergraphics. To contact
         Lasergraphics Tech Support, call (714) 753-8292 .

       - Digital Palette is manufactured by Polaroid. To contact
         Polaroid, call (800) 225-1618.

       - Photo Metric Slide Maker 250 is manufactured by General
Parametrics. To contact General Parametrics, call (510)
         524-3950.

       - Solitaire is manufactured by MGI. To contact MGI, call (612)
         854-1220.

In many cases, the film recorder manufacturer has enlisted the
aid of another company, such as Zenographics, to develop and
market its drivers. The cost of obtaining these drivers varies
widely and depends solely on the policies of the specific vendor.
