Editing PowerPoint Graphic Causes Text Size to Change

PSS ID Number: Q105086 Article last modified on 03-07-1997

====================================================================== 5.00 5.10 MACINTOSH kbinterop

The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Word for the Macintosh, versions 5.0, 5.1

SYMPTOMS

The font size of text in a PowerPoint slide changes if you open the slide in Word’s Picture Editor.

CAUSE

Word cannot correctly edit slides pasted from PowerPoint in its Picture Editor if the slides contain text. The slides paste and print correctly, but if you double-click a graphic to edit it in the Picture Editor, the text changes size and may move in the graphic. In Word 5.0, the text becomes larger; in Word 5.1, the text becomes smaller. The problem occurs when you paste from any PowerPoint view.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem with Word versions 5.0 and 5.1 for the Macintosh. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

WORKAROUNDS

  • Modify the slides in PowerPoint before pasting them into Word.

    -or-

  • If a slide requires editing outside of PowerPoint, copy it to a graphics program before pasting it into Word. If the graphics program can save a graphic as a PICT file, an alternative method to copying and pasting the graphic into Word is to insert the PICT graphic as a file into Word (from Word’s Insert menu, choose Picture).
