SYMPTOMS
When you copy a linked object from Publisher 2.0 to another application, the link is lost. The ability to copy and paste linked objects while retaining the original link is a feature supported by Object Linking and Embedding (OLE) 2.0. However, Publisher 2.0 will break the link when pasting into another application, even if the application supports OLE 2.0.

Steps to Reproduce Problem
- Start a source application that supports object linking and embedding (for example, Microsoft Excel for Windows, version 4.0).
- Select an object.
- From the Edit menu, choose Copy.
- Start Publisher 2.0 and open a blank page.
- From the Edit menu, choose Paste Special and select Paste Link.
- Select the linked object in Publisher and choose Copy from the Edit menu.
- Start another destination application that supports OLE (for example Microsoft Word for Windows).
- From the Edit menu, choose Paste.
The object should be linked to the original application no matter what OLE destination application it is pasted into.
When pasting the linked object into another destination application (i.e. Microsoft Word) you may receive the following error message:
Clicking the OK button is the only option available. This causes the object to be pasted as a picture and the OLE information to be lost.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was corrected in Microsoft Publisher 98.
