TrueType Characters Truncated on Epson or Panasonic Printers

SYMPTOMS
When you print text formatted for certain TrueType fonts on any Epson LQ series, Panasonic 24-pin dot-matrix, or compatible printers, the top or bottom of the character may not print.
This problem occurs with the Lucida Handwriting or Lucida Calligraphy fonts, which are supplied with the Microsoft TrueType Font Pack. The ascenders on the letters “d” and “f” and the bottoms of the letters “N,” “I,” “t,” and “h” are clipped.
CAUSE
The font includes characters that are actually larger than the bounding box for that font size. This occurs commonly with italic fonts.
This behavior is acceptable in TrueType technology. Most Windows-based applications accommodate fonts that exceed their bounding box by adjusting the baseline. In Word for MS-DOS, however, the auto linespacing feature does not make this adjustment.
WORKAROUND
Increase the line spacing setting to make room for the entire character to print. For example, for 12-point text, change the line spacing setting to 14 points (or 1.2 lines).
