PC Adm: Err Msg: Error 29 Alias Does Not Exist

PSS ID Number: Q104871 Article last modified on 10-01-1993

3.20 MS-DOS

The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Mail for PC Networks, version 3.2

SYMPTOMS

In version 3.2 of the Microsoft Mail Administrator program, the Import utility (IMPORT.EXE) is used to create, modify, and delete users on the local postoffice. (This feature is described in detail on pages 323-325 of the version 3.2 “Administrator’s Guide.”) The Import utility will not modify a user’s friendly name. When you try to modify a user’s friendly name, the following error message occurs: Error 29 Alias does not exist <friendly name>

CAUSE

You cannot modify a user’s friendly name using the Import utility. You must modify it using the Mail Administrator program.

RESOLUTION

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in version 3.2 of Microsoft Mail for PC Networks. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
