Toolbar Position Not Saved

PSS ID Number: Q104802 Article last modified on 03-07-1997

The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Word for the Macintosh, version 5.1

SYMPTOM

Word fails to save the Toolbar position.

CAUSE

Under System 7, if you change the Toolbar position while the active Word Settings file is not the Word Settings (5) file located in the System Folder’s Preferences folder, Word may fail to save the Toolbar position in that active Word Settings file, as expected. [In System 6, the problem occurs if the active Word Settings file is not the Word Settings (5) file in the System Folder.]

WORKAROUND

To successfully change the Toolbar location, start Word by double-clicking the application or double-clicking a Word document. After starting Word, change the Toolbar position. When you quit Word, Word will save the new position.

MORE INFORMATION

To determine the name of the active Word Settings file, choose Commands from the Tools menu. Word shows the name of the active Word Settings file at the lower left.

Under System 7, Word saves information about the Toolbar position in the Word Settings (5) file located in the System Folder’s Preferences folder [in System 6, the Word Settings (5) file in the System Folder]. Word does not save the position information in Word Toolbar Prefs.
