APPLIES TO

This article was previously published under Q104773

SYMPTOMS

If you install Windows NT 3.1 on a Reply Model 32 MCA computer with the onboard AT IDE controller shipped with the machine, the following STOP message appears:

Stop 0x0000007B (0xff962BA8,0x00000000,0x00000000,0x00000000) Inaccessible_boot_device

This error will occur while attempting to load Windows NT to complete the GUI portion of Setup. Setup will also hang, without a stop screen, on the Reply PS/2 Models 50, 55, 60/80 and 70 using the same onboard AT IDE controller. With these models, Setup will hang while attempting to load Windows NT to complete the GUI portion of Setup at the blue screen containing the following:

    Microsoft Windows NT ver.3.1
    [x kb of memory]

where x represents the amount of memory on the system.

All of the systems mentioned above work correctly with ESDI or SCSI hard drive controllers.

The Reply Model 32 and Reply PS/2 Models 50, 55, 60/80 and 70 are all on the Windows NT Hardware Compatibility List (HCL). However, they were only tested with ESDI and SCSI controllers.
