SYMPTOMS

When you use the ALT+V and ALT+U key combinations to remove the memory-resident portion of Microsoft VSAFE, you may receive the following error message:

Other TSR’s loaded - cannot unload VSAFE. Press “S” to STOP unloading

CAUSE

This error message occurs if another terminate-and-stay-resident (TSR) program is loaded in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file after VSAFE.COM.

WORKAROUND

To make VSAFE a removable TSR program, make sure that it is loaded last in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file.

Steps to Reproduce Behavior

  1. Edit the AUTOEXEC.BAT file by adding

    c:

    as the next to last line.

  2. Add the following line below the c:line:

    c:

  3. Save the file, exit, and reboot your computer.

  4. At the MS-DOS command prompt, press ALT+V and then ALT+U.
