Excel: Can't Use ARROW Keys to Select Objects in Spreadsheet

Last reviewed: September 12, 1996
Article ID: Q104582

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Excel for Windows, versions 3.0, 4.0, 4.0a, 5.0
  • Microsoft Excel for OS/2, version 3.0
  • Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh, versions 3.0, 4.0, 5.0

In Microsoft Excel, when you select an embedded object in a spreadsheet, you will not be able to use the ARROW keys to navigate from object to object.

To regain control of the ARROW keys, select a cell on your spreadsheet that does not contain an embedded object.

Although you can use ARROW keys to move from one embedded object to another in the chart window, in a spreadsheet you must click the object to select it and press the TAB key or SHIFT+TAB to move from object to object.
