SUMMARY

The following information discusses how to: attach data values to individual points on a chart, attach data values to all points on all series on a chart, attach data values to the top of Microsoft Excel version 4.0 3-D column charts.

To Add a Value Label to an Individual Point

  1. In the Chart Window, press CTRL (Windows) or COMMAND (Macintosh) and select the data marker to which you want to attach a label.
  2. From the Chart menu, choose Attach Text.

    In the Attach Text dialog box, the Series And Data Point option is automatically selected and the numbers for the currently selected data marker appear in the Series Number and Point Number boxes.

  3. Choose OK.

  1. From the Chart menu, choose Select Chart.
  2. With the chart window active, type the label and press ENTER.
  3. Drag the text box to the desired location.

To Add Value Labels to All Series

For 2-D charts:

  1. From the Gallery menu, choose Column.
  2. Select type 7.
  3. Choose the OK button.
  4. From the Format menu, choose Main Chart.
  5. From the Main Chart Type list, choose the desired chart type and attributes.
  6. Choose OK.

For 3-D column charts:

  1. Follow steps 1-6 for 2-D charts.
  2. From the Format menu, choose 3-D View.
  3. Clear the Right Angle Axes check box.

To attach data values in the center of 3-D columns:

  1. Follow steps 1-6 for 2-D charts.
  2. From the Format menu, choose 3-D View.
  3. Select the Right Angle Axes check box.
  4. Choose OK.

NOTE: The Right Angle Axes check box is only available in Microsoft Excel version 4.0. In Microsoft Excel version 3.0, the data values are displayed at the top of the columns.

It is not possible to automatically attach data values to the ends of 3-D Bar Charts.

NOTE: 3-D Bar charts are only available in Microsoft Excel version 4.0.
