PUB2: Network Install Shows "Unknown User" When Run
Q104521
------------------------------------------------------------------- The information in this article applies to: - Microsoft Publisher for Windows, versions 2.0, 2.0a ------------------------------------------------------------------- SYMPTOMS ======== When you start a network installation of Publisher on your workstation, you may find that the startup screen displays the words "unknown user" instead of your name. This occurs even if you entered your name when you ran the Setup /N command to install Publisher on your workstation. The serial number it displays may also be incorrect. STATUS ====== Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was corrected in Microsoft Publisher for Windows 95 version 3.0. MORE INFORMATION ================ When the network administrator installs Publisher to the network server using the Setup /A command, the MSPUB.EXE file is stamped with the company name. However, when workstation users install using the Setup /N command and enter their names, that information is not recorded. All the workstation users are using the same .EXE file from the network server. For this reason, individual names cannot be written to the .EXE file, and do not display when users run Publisher.
