XL5: Tabs in Tab Dialog Box Appear to Change Places

Last reviewed: September 12, 1996
Article ID: Q104404

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Excel for Windows, version 5.0
  • Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh, version 5.0

In the new Microsoft Excel 5.0 menu structure, many related commands are on separate tabs, clustered together in a single dialog box. Some of these tab dialog boxes contain two rows of tab selections. When you select a tab in the back row, that row moves to the front. Although the tabs within the row will remain in the same place, it may appear that they change places since the whole row moves. Because there is no easy way to display a tab from the back row without obscuring tabs in the front row, these dialog boxes were designed so that the entire row shifts.
