The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft MS-DOS operating system version 6.0

You may receive the following error message when you try to restore files from a network drive:

Entry Error. Path Name Is Entered Incorrectly.

This problem occurs because the final directory containing the data to be restored is truncated from the path.

For example, the path may appear as follows

when it should read:

To work around this problem, use the full path and filename. To do this from Microsoft Backup:

  1. Find the backup data file at the MS-DOS command prompt. To do this, change to the network drive and use the DIR command to find the backup data file. The file is stored as <drive one><drive 2><year> <month><day>X.FUL. For example, if you backed up from C to S on July 1, 1993, the filename is: CS30701X.FUL.

Write down the name of the file you find.

  2. Choose Restore.

  3. Under Restore From, choose MS-DOS Drive and Path.

  4. Select the network drive and directory to which you backed up the files.

  5. Choose Catalog.

  6. Choose Retrieve.

  7. Choose MS-DOS Drive and Path.

  8. Modify the drive and path shown by adding the directory name containing the data to be restored to the end of the drive and path shown. For example, if the MS-DOS Drive and Path is “s:” change it to “s:<filename>”. Use the name of the file you noted in step 1.

  9. Choose OK.

  10. When the Catalog Retrieved message appears, choose OK.

  11. Choose Load.
