Q104163

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows NT Server version 3.1
  • Microsoft Windows NT Workstation version 3.1
  • Microsoft Windows NT Advanced Server, version 3.1

SUMMARY

Windows NT Terminal does not allow alphabetic characters in the phone number to be dialed.

For example, 9W1-234-5678 actually sends 991-234-5678 to the modem The 'W' normally instruct the modem to wait for a dial tone before proceeding with the phone number. However, Terminal sends different numbers for different alphabetic characters. The numbers correspond to the letters on the phone as follows:

   abc = 2
   def = 3
   ghi = 4
   jkl = 5
   mno = 6
   prs = 7
   tuv = 8
   wxy = 9
