SYMPTOMSRunning Setup for MSDN Disc 4 may result in a general protection (GP) fault or an Application Execution Error, and/or may hang your machine. RESOLUTIONWorkaround 1Close all other applications before running Setup: 1. Make copies of the AUTOEXEC.BAT, CONFIG.SYS, and WIN.INI files. 2. Perform a clean boot with the following minimal AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS files as follows: AUTOEXC.BAT Path=<include the Windows directory, the MS-DOS directory, and the root> prompt $p$g set temp = <Windows directory>\temp MSCDEX.EXE CONFIG.SYS Files=45 buffers=20 device=<Windows directory>\himem.sys CD-ROM driver Note: Include any device drivers that you absolutely must have in order to boot your machine: SYSTEM.INI LOAD=<blank> RUN=<blank> Remove all icons from the Startup program group. 3. Use the standard Microsoft Windows supplied video driver (that is, reinstall the VGA driver). 4. Start Windows in standard mode (using the WIN /S command). 5. Start File Manager, access the CD drive, and run the SETUP.EXE file on the root directory of the MSDN CD-ROM disc. Workaround 2Use the manual Setup instructions. Follow the manual installation instructions included in MANSETUP.TXT in the root directory of the Developer Network CD-ROM.
