WINDOWS

The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Word for Windows, versions 2.0, 2.0a, 2.0a-CD, 2.0b, 2.0c - Microsoft Windows operating system versions 3.0 and 3.1

SYMPTOMS

When you choose either the Accept Revisions or Undo Revisions button in the Tools Revision Marks dialog box, Word for Windows deletes all text that is marked for BOTH insertion (underline formatting) and deletion (strikethrough formatting).

Text that is marked for both insertion and deletion occurs most commonly when you copy and paste text from one document to another while the Mark Revisions option is selected in both documents. For example, if you delete text in one document, copy it, then paste it in the other document, the text is marked both for insertion and deletion.

CAUSE

When you select the Accept Revisions button, Word accepts both the insertion and the deletion of the text. When you select the Undo Revisions, Word undoes both the deletion and the insertion of the text. The net result of either operation is that Word deletes the text.

WORKAROUNDS

Try one of the following four workarounds:

  • For text that is marked for deletion in the source document, undo revisions before you copy the text and paste it in the destination document.
  • Copy the text to the destination document before you delete it in the source document.
  • In the destination document, cancel the Mark Revisions option before you paste text that is marked for deletion.
  • To paste text that is marked for deletion, choose Paste Special from the Edit menu, select Unformatted Text in the Data Type box, then choose OK.
