File Open in Word for Windows May Not Work with Master Word

Q103485

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows NT Server version 3.1
  • Microsoft Windows NT Workstation version 3.1
  • Microsoft Windows NT Advanced Server, version 3.1

SUMMARY

When running Microsoft Word for Windows in Windows NT, the File Open dialog box may not appear if Master Word is installed.

Master Word replaces some Word for Windows commands, such as File Open, with its own macros. Some of these macros may not operate correctly in Windows NT. When you are using Master Word with Word for Windows in Windows NT, and you choose Open from the File menu, the File Open dialog box does not appear and you are not able to open previously saved files in Word for Windows.

To work around this problem, either reinstall Word for Windows in Windows NT without Master Word or remove the Master Word macros.

For additional information, call Alki Technical Support at (206) 286-2780. Master Word is manufactured by Alki Software Corporation, a vendor independent of Microsoft; we make no warranty, implied or otherwise, regarding this products' performance or reliability.
