RAS Monitor Does Not Use the International API

Q103397

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows NT Server version 3.1
  • Microsoft Windows NT Workstation version 3.1
  • Microsoft Windows NT Advanced Server, version 3.1

SYMPTOMS

The Windows NT Remote Access Services port monitoring utility (RASMON) does not use the Windows NT International application programming interface (API) to determine the format for information it displays. This may lead to confusion when reading information for Transmit (TX), Receive (RX), or other RAS statistics.

Windows NT supports International API so applications can determine which language Windows NT is configured for. Using this information, applications can format output correctly according to the currently installed language. RASMON, however, does not use the International API to determine the correct language installed and does not format its output accordingly. For example, RASMON will always use a comma (,) as a thousands separator even though the French thousands separator should be a space.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT version 3.1 and Windows NT Advanced Server version 3.1. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
