The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Word for MS-DOS, version 6.0 - Microsoft Word for Windows, versions 2.0, 2.0a, 2.0a-CD, 2.0b, 2.0c

SYMPTOMS

If your Word for MS-DOS document contains revision marks and you save it in the Word for Windows 2.0 file format, the revision marks change to strikethrough character formatting when you open the converted document in Word for Windows.

The Tools Revision Marks command in Word for Windows does not recognize the strikethrough character formatting as revised text. As a result, Word for Windows does not delete that text when you accept the revision marks.

STATUS

We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

WORKAROUNDS

  • To avoid this problem, do not save documents that contain revision marks to the Word for Windows 2.0 file format from Word for MS-DOS. Instead, open these Word for MS-DOS files in Word for Windows. When Word for Windows prompts you to convert the file, select Word for MS-DOS in the Convert File dialog box and then choose OK.

    -or-

  • If you open a converted file in Word for Windows that contains strikethrough character formatting instead of revision marks, use the Edit Replace command to delete the text when you want to accept revision marks.
