Q102945

The information in this article applies to: - Microsoft Visual C++ for Windows, version 1.0 and 1.5 - Microsoft FORTRAN PowerStation for MS-DOS, version 1.0 and 1.0a - Microsoft Macro Assembler for MS-DOS, version 6.1, 6.1a and 6.11 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- SYMPTOMS ======== The Microsoft DOSXNT MS-DOS-extended C/C++ compiler, FORTRAN compiler, Macro Assembler, or other utility generates the following error: DOSXNT : fatal error DX1390: cannot load program : out of memory With exception of Microsoft Visual C++ 32-bit Edition, the documentation does not provide any additional information regarding the cause of this error. CAUSE ===== DOSXNT cannot load the executable because all memory is exhausted. You must free more memory. Also, the documentation in the Microsoft Visual C++, 32-bit Edition says that a swap file must exist. RESOLUTION ========== Increase the amount of memory that is available. For an MS-DOS extended program that uses DOSXNT to run with the Microsoft Windows operating system, a Windows swap file should exist. Create a swap file and increase the swap file space for Windows until this error message does not occur. To increase Windows swap file space, choose Virtual Memory from the 386 Enhanced options of Control Panel. Additional reference words: 1.00 1.50 8.00 8.00c 6.10 6.10a 6.11 1.00a
