The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh, versions 4.0, 5.0
SYMPTOMS
In Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh, a sound contained in a cell note or file will play faintly even if you've set the volume to zero in the Sound control panel. With the volume set to zero, no sound should be audible. There is no workaround for this situation.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh version 4.0. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
MORE INFORMATION
In Microsoft Excel, you can play a sound from a cell note or a file. To play a sound from a cell note, double-click the cell. If the cell note contains text, the Note dialog box will display. Choose the Play button in this dialog box. Otherwise, the sound will play automatically. You can also select the cell containing the note, choose the Note command from the Formula menu and then choose the Play button.
To play a sound from a file, choose the Note command from the Formula menu and then choose the Import button, select a sound, and choose the Play button. In a macro, you can use the SOUND.PLAY() macro command to play a sound in either a cell note or file.
