1.00 WINDOWS kbtool --------------------------------------------------------------------- The information in this article applies to: - Microsoft Visual C++ for Windows, version 1.0 --------------------------------------------------------------------- SUMMARY ======= Below is a list of differences between the Standard and Professional editions of Microsoft Visual C++ version 1.0. Features and Tools ------------------ - Professional can target MS-DOS; Standard cannot. - Professional comes with the CodeView debugger for MS-DOS as well as the CodeView debugger for Windows. - Professional has tools such as Spy, Heap Walker, Stress, Zoomin, MPC (the Make P-Code Utility) Font Editor, Profiler, TRACE (for MS-DOS overlays), Hotspot Editor, MARK, and MARKMIDI. - Professional comes with Windows Debug kernel. - Professional has the Optimizing Compiler and fast compiler while the Standard has only the fast compiler. - Professional has more libraries for alternate math and MS-DOS support. - Professional has Multimedia help and Windows Software Development Kit (SDK) sample code. - Professional has the Help Compiler (hc31.exe). Standard does not. Documentation ------------- The Professional edition of Visual C++ version 1.0 comes with the following additional documentation, which is not included in the Standard Edition: - "Professional Tools User's Guide," which includes "Programming Tools for Windows," "CodeView Debugger User's Guide," "Command-Line Utilities User's Guide," and "Source Profiler User's Guide." - "Reference Volume II," which is the "C/C++ Language Reference." - "Reference Volume III," which contains "Run-Time Library Reference" and "iostream Class Library Reference." - "Comprehensive Index." - All of the Windows 3.1 SDK manuals; that is "Programmer's Reference" Volumes 1-4.
