SYMPTOMS
In Word for MS-DOS
If a Grammatik preferences (.PRF) file is present in the Word for MS-DOS program directory and it has the same filename as a TrueType display file Word is currently using, Word incorrectly displays and prints any TrueType fonts in your documents. No error messages occur, and TrueType fonts print in the default printer font.
For example, if a Grammatik preferences file named HP3.PRF is present in the Word program directory and you are using the HP3.PRD printer driver to print a document that contains TrueType fonts, the TrueType fonts display incorrectly in your document and print in an HP LaserJet Series III default printer font.
In Grammatik 5.0
Grammatik terminates and the following error message occurs if the program attempts to load a .PRF file that is a Word TrueType display file:
FATAL ERROR: Preferences file created by incorrect version of grammar checker. Restore preferences file from distribution disks. Press <ESC> to continue.
When you press ESC, Grammatik closes and returns you to the command prompt, where the following error message occurs:
Aborting after failure reading preferences file.
CAUSE
Word for MS-DOS uses files with a .PRF filename extension to display TrueType fonts in print preview. Grammatik version 5.0 uses files with the same filename extension (.PRF) to save grammar and spelling preferences. These files are not compatible with one another.
WORKAROUND
Move your Grammatik .PRF files to a directory other than the Word program directory.

Word PRF Files
When you add TrueType font support to a Word printer driver, a .PRF file is generated that contains TrueType font information and the path and filename for the TrueType display file. The .PRF file has the same filename as the printer driver, and it is located in the same directory as the printer driver.
Grammatik PRF Files
Grammatik 5.0 is the grammar checker supplied with Word version 6.0 for MS-DOS. Grammatik .PRF files store grammar and spelling checker preferences. This file can be created and accessed from any directory, including the Word program directory.
