Cannot Add Extended Characters to Grammatik MORPROOF.DIC File

PSS ID Number: Q102615 Article last modified on 11-03-1994

====================================================================== 6.00 MS-DOS kbother

The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Word for MS-DOS, version 6.0

SYMPTOMS

Grammatik version 5.0, supplied with Word for MS-DOS, includes a dictionary management utility called DICTUTIL.EXE. You cannot use DICTUTIL.EXE to add words that contain extended characters to the MORPROOF.DIC dictionary file.

For example, if you use DICTUTIL.EXE to add words from UPDAT-AM.CMP (the file where Word stores words you add to your standard [main] Word dictionary) to MORPROOF.DIC, the dictionary utility does not add any words that contain extended characters.

WORKAROUND

Use the Learn Word command in Grammatik to add words that contain extend characters to the spelling dictionary. Grammatik stores these words in the GMK.SPL file and no longer flags them as misspelled. Do not use DICTUTIL.EXE to merge GMK.SPL with MORPROOF.DIC after you add words that contain extended characters to GMK.SPL.
