SUMMARY

The Application Note titled “Frequently Requested WordBasic Macros for Word for Windows 2.0” (WD0523) includes a macro called Table Math. This macro can be used to create math formulas in the contents of Microsoft Word for Windows table cells.

To obtain Word for Windows Application Notes, call Microsoft Product Support Services at (206) 462-9673. WD0523 can also be found in the Software/Data Library by searching on the word WD0523 or S13430. WD0523 was archived using the PKware file-compression utility.

WD0523 can also be obtained via modem from the Microsoft Download Service (MSDL) by calling (206) 936-6735. For more information about using the MSDL, query on the word “GA0604” in the Microsoft Knowledge Base.

To Install the TableMath Macro

  1. Open the MACROS.DOC document. This file is contained on the disk included with the “Frequently Requested WordBasic Macros for Word for Windows 2.0” Application Note.

  2. From the list of macros, select Table Math and choose the Install button.

  3. Another dialog box will appear requesting a template name to install the macro to and a menu for the macro to appear under.

    The macro will be placed at the bottom of the menu you select.

  4. The template is saved automatically.

To Run the Table Math Macro

  1. Move the insertion point to the table cell where the math results will be placed.

  2. From the menu that the macro has been added to, choose Table Math.

    The Table Math Interface dialog box will be displayed with the table size and the current cursor location in the table showing at the top.

  3. In the Beginning and Ending sections, type any of the following:

    1. A number in the row and column boxes
    2. A number in the Number Or Bmk box
    3. A bookmark name in the Number Or Bmk box

    If you enter a number or bookmark, the macro will verify whether it is a valid bookmark or number. Numbers with commas will not be accepted since the result may be formatted (through the Options button) to place these in.

  4. To verify the choices, choose the Confirm button. The macro will highlight the selected cell(s) or display the number or bookmark entered.

  5. To format characters and paragraphs, choose the Options button.

    Note: For more information, choose the Help button in the options dialog box.

  6. To paste the formula into the cell that the cursor is currently in, choose the OK button.

    Note: If the table has indents that may prevent some or all of the table cell results from showing, a warning message will appear that suggests pressing CTRL+Q to return to normal settings.

  7. To terminate the macro without altering the table, choose Cancel.
