SYMPTOMS

The following error message occurs if you try to play a MIDI file from Media Player if the timer is not installed in the Drivers option in Control Panel or if the timer driver file (TIMER.DRV) is damaged:

All multimedia timers are being used by other applications. Quit one of these applications and then try again.

To reinstall the TIMER.DRV driver, decompress it from disk 3 of the Windows 3.1 disks (TIMER.DR_) using the EXPAND.EXE utility in Windows. Expand the TIMER.DR_ file into the WINDOWS/SYSTEM subdirectory as TIMER.DRV and place the following line in the SYSTEM.INI file under the [drivers] section:

   TIMER=timer.drv
                

For instructions on decompressing the TIMER.DR_ file, query on the following words in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
