PUB2: Error When Saving to a Different Floppy Disk
Q101829
------------------------------------------------------------------- The information in this article applies to: - Microsoft Publisher for Windows, versions 2.0, 2.0a ------------------------------------------------------------------- SYMPTOMS ======== You cannot open a publication from one floppy disk, then replace the disk with another and save the publication to it. If you remove the original floppy disk and attempt to save the file to a different floppy disk, one of the following messages will appear Disk is full trying to write A:\FILENAME.PUB. Save on a different disk and/or drive. -or- Can't read A:\FILENAME.PUB. Press Retry to try again. Cancel closes Publisher and loses all changes. -or- Can't find FILENAME.PUB. Insert in <drive> and retry. Where FILENAME.PUB is the name of your file and <drive> is your floppy disk drive. RESOLUTION ========== If you get the second error message, Publisher will not be able to read the file even if you immediately put the original disk back in. To exit from the error message, you will need to choose Cancel, and Publisher will close. As the message indicates, all changes to the file will be lost. If you get the third error message, insert the floppy disk that contains the original file or press CANCEL and lose any changes you have made to the file. These messages appear even if the destination floppy disk is empty and there is plenty of space to save the file. STATUS ====== Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was corrected in Publisher for Windows 95, version 3.0. More Information ================ If you are trying to save the file on another removable disk of the same drive designation, you will need to save the file on some other drive, (preferably your hard disk drive) and then copy it to another floppy disk. To copy a publication that is on one floppy disk to another floppy disk, use one of the following methods: - Open the publication from the first floppy disk and save it to the hard drive. Insert the new disk and save the publication to it. - Copy the publication to the hard drive. Insert the new floppy disk and copy the publication to it. - If you have more than one floppy drive, copy or open and save the publication from one floppy disk directly to the other. Note: This same error message may appear when you have opened a Publisher document from a floppy drive and attempt to save it to the hard drive.
