Shading Patterns on Text Frames Display Incorrectly on ATI

Q101739

-------------------------------------------------------------------
The information in this article applies to:

 - Microsoft Publisher for Windows, versions 2.0, 2.0a
-------------------------------------------------------------------

SYMPTOMS
========

Shading patterns may not display correctly if you are using an ATI
Ultra graphics card with the Windows 3.1 ATI Ultra 800 x 600 or
1024 x 768 16/256 video drivers.

If you shade a text frame or table with a color other than black as
the foreground color, the area around the text is shaded in black and
white instead of the foreground color you chose.

STATUS
======

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Publisher versions 2.0 and
2.0a when using Windows 3.x. This problem was corrected in Windows 95.

MORE INFORMATION
================

Steps to Reproduce Problem
--------------------------

1. Create a text frame and type a few lines of text.

2. With the text frame selected, choose Shading from the Format menu.

3. Choose any shading pattern.

4. Choose teal as the foreground color, and choose OK.

Instead of the entire text frame being shaded teal-on-white, as one
would expect, all the lines on which there is text are shaded
black-on-white.

Display problems may also occur with the layout margin guides, tool
ribbon, or toolbar.
