SUMMARY

In Word for Windows, you cannot adjust the width of a table cell by dragging the column marker on the ruler if the cell is positioned to the right of merged cells.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Word for Windows versions 2.0, 2.0a, 2.0a-cd, 2.0b, and 2.0c. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

This problem does not occur in Word for Windows, versions 1.0, 1.1, and 1.1a.

WORKAROUND

  • To adjust the width of a cell that is positioned to the right of merged cells, use the Column Width command from the Table menu.

    -or-

  • Select the cell and use the mouse to move the right column border of the table cell itself.
