Service Status Shows “Started” Even When Service Fails

In the Control Panel Services dialog box, when you start a service, the Status column displays “Started” even when the service fails to start. If you close and reopen the Services dialog box, the Status column correctly displays the status of the service (started or not).
The Services dialog box is designed to act in this manner. The Status column can display only three status values: started, stopped (blank), and paused. Because a service may require some time to start, the Status column displays “started” in anticipation of success.
