PUB2: Spelling Checker May Not Highlight All Changed Text

PUB2: Spelling Checker May Not Highlight All Changed Text

Q101536

-------------------------------------------------------------------
The information in this article applies to:

 - Microsoft Publisher for Windows, versions 2.0, 2.0a
-------------------------------------------------------------------

SYMPTOMS
========

If you highlight a misspelled word, run the spelling checker, and
change the misspelled word, the spelling checker may not highlight the
entire word or phrase that replaces the misspelled word.

CAUSE
=====

When the spelling checker changes a misspelled word or phrase to a
word or phrase that has more letters than the misspelled word, only
the letters in the new word or phrase that are equal in length to the
original misspelled word will be highlighted.

Note that the misspelled word will be corrected; it just won't be
fully highlighted in your document as expected.

STATUS
======

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Publisher versions 2.0 and
2.0a. This problem was corrected in Publisher version 3.0 for Windows 95.

Steps to Reproduce Problem
==========================

1. Create a text frame.

2. Type "USs" (without the quotation marks) in the text frame.

3. Select the three letters.

4. From the Tools menu, choose Check Spelling.

5. In the Change To box, type United States.

6. Click Change.

7. Click No in the Continue Checking Story dialog box.

8. Only "Uni" will be selected, rather than the full word "United
   States."
