Group of Objects with Text Pastes as RTF Instead of as Picture

2.00 WINDOWS ------------------------------------------------------------------- The information in this article applies to: - Microsoft Publisher version 2.0 ------------------------------------------------------------------- SYMPTOMS ======== If you copy a group of objects that includes at least one text frame, Publisher puts a version of the information on the Clipboard in Rich Text Format (RTF). If you view the copied items in the Clipboard, they are displayed as a picture. However, if you then paste this selection into Microsoft Word for Windows by choosing Paste from the Edit menu, the group of objects is pasted into Word in RTF format. The selection will appear as randomly-aligned bits of text, and the graphic elements will be missing. WORKAROUND ========== To avoid this problem, choose Paste Special, and paste the selection into Word as a picture. To do this, follow these steps: 1. After selecting and copying the group of objects in Publisher, switch to Word. 2. From Word's Edit menu, choose Paste Special. 3. In the Data Type area, select Picture. Choose OK. The selection should paste in Word and look as it did in Publisher. Steps to Reproduce Problem -------------------------- 1. Run the Banner PageWizard to create a banner. Accept all the default settings. 2. Select the banner, and from the Edit menu, choose Copy Group. 3. Switch to Microsoft Word for Windows. From the Edit menu, choose Paste. Instead of getting a picture of the banner you created, bits of text appear. Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Publisher version 2.0. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available. Additional reference words: 2.00 mspub w_winword
