In Microsoft Project version 3.0, an entry in the Macro Definition Dialog Box cannot exceed 8191 characters.
Steps to Reproduce Situation in Windows
- In Program Manager, choose Run from the File menu. In the command line, type “Write” (without the quotation marks) and press ENTER.
- From the WINPROJ directory, open the README.WRI file.
- Select all of the text and choose Copy from the Edit menu.
- Start Microsoft Project.
- From the Macro menu, choose Define Macro, and select New. Place the cursor in the entry window and choose Paste.
- Select all of the text and choose Copy.
- Start Microsoft Word for Windows and from the Edit menu, choose Paste.
- From the File menu, select Summary Info. Select Statistics. The number of characters is listed as 8191 characters.
A way to exceed the 8191 characters is to call a macro from within your macro. For example a line in your macro could say “Macro [macro name]” (without quotation marks) where macro name is the name of another macro as listed in the Define Macros dialog box.
