Stripes Appear in Clipart when Fill Color Is Changed in Draw

Stripes Appear in Clipart when Fill Color Is Changed in Draw

Q101250

-------------------------------------------------------------------
The information in this article applies to:

 - Microsoft Publisher for Windows, versions 2.0, 2.0a
 - Microsoft Publisher for Windows 95, version 3.0
 - Microsoft Draw version 1.0
-------------------------------------------------------------------

SYMPTOMS
========

Some of the clipart included with Publisher 2.0 and used in Publisher 2.0
or 3.0, may seem to contain extraneous bands or stripes after being edited
in Draw. Images that are complex horizontally may contain many horizontal
lines after you change the fill colors.

CAUSE
=====

On some graphics, such as PIGS.CGM, this occurs because the image is
built up of many separate blocks or objects. The bands or horizontal
lines appear if you change the fill color to be different than the
line color, because then the borders of the separate objects display.

WORKAROUND
==========

To eliminate this problem, you can do either of the following:

 - Select all the objects in the image and change the line color to be
   the same as the fill color.

   -or-

 - Select the individual objects on which the borders are showing up
   as unwanted stripes in the image, and change the line color to be
   the same as the fill color.

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the clipart included
with Publisher versions 2.0, 2.0a, and 3.0. We are researching this problem
and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it
becomes available.

Steps to Reproduce Problem
==========================

1. From Publisher's File menu, choose Import Picture. From the list of
   graphics in the CLIPART subdirectory, select PIGS.CGM. Choose OK.

2. With the graphic selected, choose Copy from the Edit menu.

3. Click away from the graphic to clear the selection.

4. From the Edit menu, choose Insert Object and select Microsoft Draw.

5. From Draw's Edit menu, choose Paste.

6. Change the Fill color to red.

The fill color changes to red, but the line color remains black. Black
horizontal stripes appear in the pig at the bottom of the graphic.
This occurs because if you change only the fill color and not the line
color, the borders display around the separate little objects that
compose the pig.
