Problems Changing Database Structure in FoxBASE+/Mac
Last reviewed: January 13, 1995
Article ID: Q101008
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft FoxBASE+ for the Macintosh, versions 2.0 and 2.01
In FoxBASE+/Mac, multiple problems can arise when at attempt is made to change the database structure. For example, structure changes may be ignored, disk errors may be reported, and menu items may be unavailable.
To determine the cause of these problems, check the following items:
- Check to see if this problem is occurring with the multiuser version of FoxBASE+/Mac. With the multiuser version, you must open the database exclusively in order to modify the structure. Either issue a SET EXCLUSIVE ON command and then use the database, or issue the USE <database> EXCLUSIVE command from the Command window.
Check for an INIT or Extension conflict with FoxBASE+/Mac or the Macintosh system software:
System 6.0x -----------
To disable all INITs, drag each INIT out of the System Folder and restart the Macintosh.
System 7 --------
To disable all Extensions, hold down the SHIFT key while restarting the machine. Once the logo "Welcome to Macintosh/Extensions Off" appears, release the SHIFT key.
NOTE: You may not be able to remove all the Extensions or INITs; some may be needed to run the Macintosh. Remove as many INITs or Extensions as possible.
- Check to see if the field "types" popup will accept changes. If it won't, the FoxUser file may be damaged, or Adobe Type Reunion 1.0 may be installed.
