Custom Paper Sizes Print Incorrectly on Original HP PaintJet |
ID: Q100961
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows versions 3.1, 3.11
- Microsoft Word for Windows, versions 2.0, 2.0a, 2.0a-CD, 2.0b, 2.0c
SYMPTOMS
Custom paper sizes may print incorrectly on an original Hewlett-Packard (HP) PaintJet printer.
CAUSE
This occurs because the printer driver (HPPCL5C.DRV version 2.1) sends a form feed at the end of each page for an 11-inch page. If you use paper with a length other than 11 inches, subsequent pages begin printing at the wrong position.
The form feed also affects the printing of banners using banner creation software (such as Instant Artist by AutoDesk, Inc.). When the PaintJet printer driver sends the form feed, a gap occurs at the page break perforations on the paper. You cannot eliminate this gap, but you can minimize it by adjusting the Top Of Form setting on the printer before you print the banner. (Use the button on the printer to adjust this setting.)
NOTE: The HPPCL5C.DRV version 2.1 PaintJet printer driver does not include a top or bottom unprintable region; therefore, the gap is not caused by any forced margin settings.
