Word 1.x: Maximum Number of Variants for Style Sheets

PSS ID Number: Q10075 Article last modified on 02-11-1999

====================================================================== 1.x MS-DOS kbother

The documentation indicates there is a maximum of 124 total variants. I can only set up 123 variants. The “Normal Character” usage is missing from the screen. The variant for this is Format-Space (not otherwise assignable). Is this the reason it is not listed under usage?

Page 227 of the “Microsoft Word Word Processing” manual for Version 1.x states that only 123 independent variants can be defined. The 124th variant is the Normal Character variant, which you cannot change. The documentation for Versions 2.x and greater has been revised to clarify this information.
