New Document Window Extends Off PowerBook Duo Screen

PSS ID Number: Q100617 Article last modified on 03-07-1997

====================================================================== 5.10 MACINTOSH kbhw

The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Word for the Macintosh, version 5.1

SYMPTOMS

When Word is run on a PowerBook Duo, the document window for all new documents may extend past the right edge of the screen. This problem occurs when the Duo is in the dock and is connected to a 12-inch or smaller monitor.

When this problem occurs, the right edge of the document window, including the vertical scroll bar and zoom box, disappears off the screen, and items there are not accessible.

STATUS

This problem has been corrected in Word for Macintosh 6.0.

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Word for the Macintosh version 5.1. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

MORE INFORMATION

The Zoom Window key command, invoked either by pressing COMMAND+OPTION+] or by double-clicking the title bar of the document, returns the document window to its expected location. Once the document is resized and saved, thereby also saving the window position, the problem will not recur with that document. New documents however, will continue to open in the unexpected position.

When a larger monitor is used, or when the Duo is removed from its dock, new document windows will open as expected. Currently, there is no way to resolve this problem for new documents when using the smaller monitors.
