Rotated or Flipped White Text Disappears in Picture

SUMMARY
When you create white text on a dark background using the Insert Picture or Edit Picture window in Word, if you rotate or flip white text and then place the text at the top of a filled shape, the text will disappear.
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Word for the Macintosh, versions 5.0 and 5.1. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
Workaround 1
- In the Insert Picture or Edit Picture window, rotate or flip the desired text before changing its color to white.
- After the text is rotated or flipped, select the line color palette and change the text to white.
Result: When the text is moved to the top of the filled object and brought to the front, the white text will appear against the dark background as expected. When the picture window is closed, the object will still appear as expected.
Limitation: If the picture is reopened, the text will then disappear. Although the text is not visible on the screen or in print preview, the printed output will have the white text on the dark background as expected.
Workaround 2
Because this problem occurs only with white text, the problem can be resolved by changing the color to something other than white, even after it has disappeared, in the following manner:
- In the Edit Picture or Insert Picture window, select the missing text (its boundary box still exists in the location it was last placed at the top of the filled object).
- Select the Line Color Palette and change the text to a color other than white.
- Close the picture window (the text will not yet be visible).
- Reopen the picture window, and the text will reappear in its new color.
