- Microsoft Works for the Macintosh, versions 3.0, 3.0a, and 4.0

SUMMARY

When you save a file in Microsoft Works for the Macintosh, the file is written to disk only when the file is closed, or when you choose Save As from the File menu.

If you use COMMAND+S or the Save command to save a document and encounter a power outage, a power surge, or a system error requiring a system restart, Works saves the version of the file that was last closed or that was last saved using the Save As command.

In some cases, when the above-mentioned situations occur and your machine stops running, a numbered file may appear in the System Folder that contains the information in the file up to the time of system failure. Usually this file is listed as a generic document with a 5- or 6-digit number as the filename. In some cases, lost work may be recovered through this file.

Microsoft is researching this problem and will post new information here as it becomes available.
