SYMPTOMS

If you try to restore a backup set with a catalog file rebuilt with another version of Microsoft Backup (for example, you create the backup set with Microsoft Backup for Windows and try to restore it with the MS-DOS version), one of the following problems may occur:

  • The system may restart (reboot).
  • The system may stop responding (hang).
  • The error message “Cannot read volume information from diskette” may appear.

CAUSE

To restore a backup with a rebuilt catalog file, you must use the version of Microsoft Backup that you used to create the rebuilt catalog file.
