MS-DOS

The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft MS-DOS operating system versions 6.0 and 6.2

SUMMARY

When you use DoubleSpace to delete a compressed volume file (CVF) on a floppy disk (that is, you choose Delete from the Drive menu or type “dblspace /delete <drive>:” [without the quotation marks] at the MS-DOS command prompt), DoubleSpace does not delete the READTHIS.TXT file.

MORE INFORMATION

If you use the DIR command to obtain a directory listing after the CVF has been the deleted, you receive a list similar to the following:

Volume in drive A has no label Volume Serial Number is 2956-0FCF Directory of A:

READTHIS TXT 350 06-16-93 8:07a 1 file(s) 350 bytes 1212928 bytes free

If you use DIR to get a directory listing on a floppy disk that has an unmounted CVF, you get a listing similar to the one above, except the “bytes free” value is 0 (zero).

NOTE: You can use the /A switch with the DIR command to determine if there is a CVF (DBLSPACE.<nnn> [where <nnn> is between 000 and 255]) on the floppy disk.
